What is the "NHRA Special Edition" Trans Am?

In the year 2000, Pontiac began releasing the "NHRA Special Edition" package (1SH Option) on their V8 Formulas and Trans Ams to celebrate their involvement in the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association). To honor this American past time, Pontiac produced only 119 NHRA Special Edition vehicles in the year 2000, 143 vehicles in 2001, and 534 NHRA vehicles in 2002 (according to my latest research). Out of the 534 NHRA vehicles produced in 2002, there were only 136 Trans Am coupes with a manual transmission produced, making my car 1 of only 136. The NHRA vehicles are truly a diamond in the rough and are bound to be collectors items simply for their rarity.

The 2002 NHRA Special Edition option for the Trans Am is a factory and dealer installed package which added between $1,070 and $1,095 to the sticker price. The NHRA package included a manual 6-speed Hurst short-throw shifter, a 3.42 axle ratio (or 3.23 ratio for automatic transmissions), P245/50ZR16 performance tires, power-steering cooling system, and unique NHRA badges and keychain designed by the Morgan Design Group.
